Ok so I know it’s warm and it’s summertine but I think just like on the 4 on 4th race after running 9 miles you can do better than you think you can. I know you can compete very well overall and in your age group bc you have even a better speed base now and a lot more fast miles under your belt.

Sooo assuming that this course is pretty flat, I don’t see any reason why you can’t go out in around 9:30 to 9:45 pace and feel relatively comfortable. I truly think you are fit enough to go to run if you fastest, but taking pace out the window, I think your main focus should be on racing, competing and passing people.

Take some chances in the second mile. When the pain comes, expect it and know it ls just temporary. Don’t be afraid to throw a little surge in when trying to pass someone. Your legs are used to going low 9 pace and faster for speed work of late, , so high 9’s pace may not feel that bad keeping in mind it is NC summer and will be super hot and humid.

When at mike 3, just hold on. Keep putting one foot in front of the other knowing the finish line is almost there. Again when things cool off, it will be a much different story, but for now, and in a 5k road race, competing and racing should come before any type of a time goal!
