Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Picked up Jernst and Jenny Medvene-Collins at 7:30 to drive up to the Fells, a large tract of land north of Boston that was the closest place to find trails that Jenny wanted to run out. I never want to go there again for anything but a hike and maybe not even that. The trail was extremely rough and I managed to fall 5 times, one of which resulted in Julia hurdling over me, a rather amazing athletic gymnastic accomplishment. We also all got stung by bees and ended up bushwhacking at the end. Still it was really fun to get a chance to see Julia for the first time since June and Jenny for the first time in a year. Julia is off in Colombia at doing a Fulbright but she was back for a visit this week. Jenny has moved up to Boston to start a new job. After dropping Julia off at the apartment she staying in and my pulling a bee’s stinger out of Jenny’s backside, she and I drove out to the end of the Charles River path in Newton So she could add on some more miles to train for her upcoming trail marathon. I ran back along with her for 4 miles because that initial part of the trail is confusing and her sense of direction is, well, to put it lightly, mildly nonexistent. Once the path became consistent without any interruptions to cut through neighborhoods,I turned back and let her run the rest of the way home herself while I endured a rather painful slog back to my car in the hot sun. All in all it was a rather exhausting run and I’m glad I haven’t had to run much in hot weather all summer. The humidity is pretty brutal. Still, to run with such awesome people, it was worth it.
