Long run out along the trail

September 17, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Found a new shortcut (well, more likely a longcut) to the trail that curves around the mountain at a level elevation. The shortcut involves some steep ups and downs through some interesting neighborhoods, and it avoids my having to run along the highway, so I think I'll make it a regular thing. The trail, which I discovered last week, is not a nice as I'd thought. It does go for like 20 miles which is sweet, but its clearly an old road unpaved but lined with loose gravel which is not the nicest surface to run on. Still, there are a great views and some tunnels it goes through. I eventually arrived at a house after crossing the border into Republika Srpska which had a path leading down toward the river. I was super curious, despite having already run for like 50 minutes, so I made my way down along it until all of a sudden I took one step too far and was greeted by a cacophony of angry barking from around the bend. Stray dogs here are pretty timid in my experience, but dogs with owners worry me - they have a job to do guarding the house and I doubted the owners would be particularly sympathetic to an American out on a run on their property so far from the city. I sprinted back up the hill as more and more dogs took up the call, and then headed back along the trail until they faded. So I guess my curiosity about that side trail is fully satisfied! Won't need to try that again. I did however cross several other side trails on the way back, so maybe I'll try one of those next time.
