October 20, 2018 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
I went into this race with not a lot of expectation. It was a really stressful week with very little sleep and very little water. I also knew that I'd had four really strong races this season, and this is the point in the season where my body usually becomes really tired. I guess it's the spot in between early season jitters and championship mindset. I had a lot of fun cheering with Ana in the morning. I made the 7 of us warm up over an hour early (sorry again), and felt good doing my striders at the line. As soon as the gun went off I tried to get out in front. Because we were in the unseeded varsity I knew it would be pretty spread out and not a lot of people to run with. I felt good for the first 800meters and kept my first mile pretty conservative while maintaining third place. After the first mile a pretty bad stitch in my side started to set in and it wasn't going away. It made my breathing pretty difficult for the whole second mile. two girls passed me and i started to feel pretty discouraged. I knew ella was right behind me and tried to motion for her to come up and run with me (i knew i would be able to push myself more if i was running right next to a teammate instead of right in front of them). I felt super slow going up the second set of hills, and im pretty sure i started to slow down even more.
At the hairpin turn i saw ana and she gave me a nod which gave me more motivated going into the last 800. I was able to kick at the finish line but i wasn't able to pass the maret girl in front of me which resulted in a pretty disappointing finish. I ended up 5th which was nice. My time was pretty much the same time that I ran at salesianum which was pretty sad. I went into the race hoping to run a mid-20, but i ran over a minute slower than I wanted to.
This was definitely my worst race this season, but if it's going to be any race I'm glad it's prep. I wanted to go into isls with a lot of confidence, but I'm still on a PR high from breaking 20 last week so I think I'll be in the right racing mindset for saturday.
I'm also super excited for our varsity 7 at isls. It's been amazing to watch all 6 of them improve so much this season. I'm hoping to convince ella to start out with me at isls next week. I think if the two of us pack up than we'll be able to push ourselves even more.
Also super inspring to see the JV girls win their race yesterday. I know they'll do a fantastic job at setting the tone saturday morning
