Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
I'm really happy with this race. I ended the season the way I wanted to: satisfied, exhausted, and possessing an even greater love of running.
While this was not my most memorable race of the season, I think I handled it well. I went out pretty fast, but made sure I wasn't passed at all during the race. The DC state race will always have a special place in my heart because I think I'm very close in speed with a lot of girls in the area. I always have a pack (usually 2 st. johns girls and a wilson girl), and I'm always pushing myself by keeping up with the girls around me.
Freshman year I twisted my ankle and didn't finish, Sophomore year I got 2nd in the JV race, and Junior year I got 11th.
I felt good. The cheering was absolutely remarkable, and it was really nice to see both my parents there.
I finished 11th (just like last year).
I'm trying to convince myself that the competition was more aggressive this year though.
While i was gunning for a top 10 finish, I'm happy with how i ran the race. My biggest problem was not being able to out kick the girl in front of me, which just tells me how hard I worked during the race.
This season has definitely had more ups than downs, and I'm thrilled looking back on it.
I broke 20, medaled in 6/7 races, and I've fallen even deeper in love with the GDS running community.
DC states and ISLs were especially important to me because I felt a leadership role like I've never experienced. I felt a lot of responsibility going into this race, and it's a feeling I know I would experience regardless of speed. I'm excited for winter and spring track, and I'll be cheering on GDS XC for every fall to come.
ran good!
