After my frustrating ISL race, I really wanted to do a time trial even more. Decided to be insane and do a 32. Ran to AU with Leah, warmed up, and watched some very inspiring 8 and mile time trials by Benji, Arthur, Madeleine, Evan, and someone else I'm forgetting (sorry!). A number of PRs, very fun to watch. Finally got on the line. Anthony said he'd pace me which was very sweet and a number of other people offered to jump in for a few laps.
The first mile felt pretty good and I think I got a little cocky about how okay I was feeling. The second mile, as always happens in 32s, was quite a bit more challenging. I think I was also still more tired than I realized from racing 2 days before. I finished 16 seconds slower than my PR, but I actually couldn't care less about the time because it was the most incredible last "race" to finish off my high school career. Anthony stuck right next to me the whole time and at one point the entire distance team was running behind me. There was so much cheering—It was delightful. The cheering gave me little spurts of energy, but really I just listened to Anthony talk to me the whole time and it felt like just me and him running and I could feel us both getting a bit emotional about it. As I ran next to him, I thought back through so many happy memories from my four years on this team. It was a truly beautiful last practice on the team and an example (in response to my last log from ISLs) of a race where I care way more about whether I ran intelligently and feel good about it than what time I ran. Felt super crappy after for a while, but jogged back to school with both Belbers and Lauren which is honestly the ideal running squad. :)
