Test-"Run" (Not actually)

September 15, 2019 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Bike

Comments:
For those who don't know, I can't run for a month. My shin has been bugging me most of the summer which I can see through all of my logs. I met with my knee surgeon last week who told me I was having a stress reaction in my shin and if I kept running it would fracture. So, reluctantly, I accepted a deal of not running for a month. I had to do a lot of convincing to even let him let me cross train.
So here we are now, I have been biking and doing a little swimming for the past week and a half. Let me tell you, I have never appreciated running and meets this much in my life. I miss it so much. Watching everyone race, even at Oatlands, has been excruciating. Stepping off the bus at Lake forest and watching the varsity race, knowing I probably would have PRd by 30 seconds, was soooo much harder than I expected but watching that jv race, everyone PRing, and Freshmen negative splitting their first ever race (even one of them winning) made up for all the pain. Same goes for Oatlands. Although this has mostly been negative, I do have to say, this has been my favorite year BY FAR. This team and the atmosphere is the best it's been in all of high school and sitting back and watching the team rather has been sort of a blessing in disguise because it has given me a whole new perspective on this team and running in general.

Now that I am done with my rant, I have come to the realization that hitting the stationary bike for 50 minutes every day is not going to keep me in shape enough for me to come back strong. So today I did a test run of what biking to school will be like. My current plan is to bike to school 3 times a week and make my afternoon cross training those days getting home with an extension. The ride there took me 27 minutes and 6.7 miles (give or take). Stopped in at the Satolas to refill on water (thanks fro the cookie Oliver). The ride back was harder because it was much more hilly and I decided to do an extension. Did around 800ft of elevation gain. Overall the route I'm taking is safe and fairly quick, so I might end up doing this everyday depending on how I'm feeling. Definitely fun on the way there because of the downhills (was hitting 25+ mph).

Excited to keep the work up for the rest of the season and if you've made it this far, thanks for reading my rant.
