Got to go for a run with Tristan because I was up at Williams touring (thanks Zeke for helping me set that up). Last night we grabbed dinner, and Tristan told me everything I needed to know about Williams which was super helpful. We met up after my tour and got going on what he called the “double loop” because it’s the loop the Williams team does on workout days when they need a morning run. The loop was rolling hills on the roads on the outside of campus. The “foliage”, as my tour guide kept calling it, was really incredible and it’s easy to say that New England does fall better. As Tristan pointed out, the runs up here are just a little better than running to cactus and back.We eventually made it to a field that we went around before getting back on the roads. I’m definitely not back in running form yet as I was breathing pretty hard after mile 1 and until mile 3. As I predicted the breathing got much better in my fourth mile. It’s a trend I’ve been noticing (breathing hard for the first half until my legs and body get into the rhythm and then I can breathe out of my nose). Calves and Achilles’ tendons were still really sore from the race and we paused twice to let me stretch them out. The pace was a bit quick for something like my 4th run back but honestly it felt great and I’m happy to finally be getting back to speed. The splits were Mile 1: 7:05, Mile 2: 7:00, Mile 3: 6:40, Mile 4: 6:37. Felt surprisingly comfortable at the pace and we were talking the entire time. The hills made my legs a bit tired but overall I felt fairly comfortable. Thanks Tristan for running with me and answering all of my many questions. No shin pain, although my knee didn’t feel amazing.
