I have been putting off logging DC states for 7 days but I'm writing now.
We took the bus to Dunbar and put our stuff right next to sidwell. Then we went to the bathroom and chilled for a while before we (ella, Ellie, Lucy, and I) started our warmup for the 4x800. It was really hot so I wasn't wearing any sweats. WE jogged around the track twice then did warmups on the infield. We moved into the shaded stands to do the second half of the warmup. Then we grabbed our spikes and went down to check in. We did some very short striders because the officials made us stay behind the line. I ran last leg of the relay and I got the baton in fourth I think. I really wanted to get a medal so that's what I was thinking the whole time. I got into third somehow. I don't really remember the race. It was really hot and I felt very exhausted during it though. I poured Lucy's water on my head afterwards (thank you lucy). My splits were 70 and 79.
Apperently there was thunder during the race so we gathered our stuff and went into the parking garage. We did some jogging around to cool down then just chilled there for a long time. Maybe an hour and a half. At one point we thought we could go back outside but we were ushered back in so we sat in the stairwell. Camilla and I did a few practice problems for the AP calc test we had the next day. Once we were able to go back outside we had a bit of time before camilla, Sophie, and I had to start warming up for the 3200.
I was super excited for the 32 because it was going to be my last race of high school. I wanted to end the four years on a good note but I also don't have very high expectations for the race because Ive run it once before. We started warming up and doing striders then we lined up to start the race. I was in a big pack while two other girls took off and left us in their dust. I was chilling in that six person pack for like 4 laps which was annoying. I was trading off leading the pack with another girl and I kept trying to speed it up a but so we would drop everyone else. They slowly let go and it was me and this girl for the last few laps. I was basically just telling myself to stick on her but I wanted to pass her at the end obviously. Crossing the line going into the last lap I started speeding up quite a bit in hopes she would just give up and not stay with me. It took a but more work than that but I just sprinted that last lap and ended up beating her by a few seconds. The two girls in front won by a good amount. I found my splits on the live website thing and they were pretty surprising. My last lap was so much faster than my others which makes me wonder whether I could have been going faster the while time. But during the race that did not cross my mind at all, I pretty much thought i was at the extent of my efforts the whole time. My first mile was 6:13 and the second was 6:01. My splits were 1:27, 1:33, 1:34, 1:36, 1:31, 1:35, 1:34, 1:19. My last lap was the same time as my last lap for the 800 which isn't great for my 800 but oh well.
After what I thought was my last race of high school I stumbled over to the check in tent where my water was and Ella told me I would be running the 4x200. All of a sudden I got a rush of energy and was very excited for this real last race. I ran last leg to get as much rest as possible. The team was Pilar, Alana, Ella, and I. Alana and I jogged over to the other side of the track and waited for the start. I don't think I could have felt slower during the race. My legs were just not really lifting. And I have no idea what the time was. But it was fun. I started crying a bit after the race when I hugged Camilla and Ella. It was a sad day but also a perfect day to end on. We got seventh in that race.
We got back on the bus and cried some more and stressed about the AP. Then we got back to GDS and I drove home. On the way home there was a giant thunderstorm and It was actually very scary because I could barely see.
I would add this whole sentimental part about the ending to my GDS running career but I don't really feel like being emotional right now so I'll just say this. It was the best part of my four years and I will miss every single thing about this team and every run so so much. If anyone is reading this, although I don't know why you would be because i wrote it a week late, thanks for reading!!!
