13th USAF Marathon!

September 18, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50s-70s

Comments:
I ran with the 3:10 pace group for the first 15 miles. We were running 7:05 pace so we were pretty far ahead of pace for finishing before our goal. I hit a wall around mile 13 and fell back from the group at around mile 16. I still kept a decent pace up until mile 20 and my legs were just completely finished. I walk/jogged for 5 miles which was one of the most painful experiences of my life and I ran the last mile. I had each of my mile splits but my watch wouldn't let me see them so I can't see exactly where I fell apart. I had a really good half marathon time with around 1:33 but my second half was 2:51. I could have finished in the top 50 and way ahead of my age group if I didn't have to walk. I ended up 1023 of 2416 finishers. I really wish I could have kept my pace but after how bad I felt towards the end I'm just happy I finished. The course and weather were awesome and the feel of the race was incredible. My favorite part was around mile 10. It looked like a small town and there were tons of people cheering and a high school band playing. There were red, white, and blue balloons all over the place. There were airplanes flying over head the entire race including a huge B-52 Bomber and a couple F-16s flying in formation. It was an experience worth the pain.
