on the plus side, it's great to be racing again. neither of my races were great times.
chris, peter, and i warmed up 2 on the trails out behind the track. by the time i got on the line, i wasn't feeling very warm. i think i need to reevaluate my warmup strategy. the 1500 was pretty rough. i went out conservatively, holding back, and i planned to kick it in later, but i never really felt like i was racing. i wasn't even that tired after the race.
i stretched a bit afterward, then walked around campus with my mother. depauw's a really pretty campus, and it was nice to see where she went to college.
warmed up a mile on the track before the 8. i wasn't as concerned about this race. my plan was to go out hard and try to hang on. i ran decently, but the wind was crippling, and i slowed down a bunch. once again, it felt more like an interval than a race. coach told me to get in some :30 pickups during my cooldown. ironically, this was the best part of the day.
chris and i went out onto the trails again and ran 4x :30 pickups, starting each one every 2' after 5:00. i felt good for these, and once we finished we continued to run through the trails. i really wish we had trails like these in cleveland. there was a beautiful old rock quarry with trails going through it, and along the ridges. it felt so isolated from everything-- no cars, few people, and the weather was great. went up into an observatory tower and found peter. finished back to the track where it was once again cold and windy.
watched corey run the 5k and get destroyed by the wind. my hip flexors were really sore-- i think it's from hurdling yesterday. i heated, stretched, and iced during the 4x4s, and felt a little better afterward. the discomfort provided by a long bus ride did nothing to help my hips either.
