Comments:
got a good night's sleep for the first time all week. that was nice, but i wish i had slept all week. breakfast consisted of fruit, granola, yogurt, and toast. lounged for a bit while watching history channel. lunch at blimpie-- light, 6inch sub w/ iced tea. lots of water throughout the day. on the bus at 2pm.
warmed up around the indoor track to avoid the "heat" for 20ish min., then headed out to check in and do steeple drills. grabbed spikes and singlet, then more drills.
the race started out fine; i was hanging back, because i didn't want to burn out too hard. i didn't realize i was in last until later. my barriers felt a lot better, some worse than others, the water pits, not as much. i stayed with the second pack, which chris kelly was leading, for a while, but i dropped off somewhere around when chris fell. i was going to surge to catch him and tell him to get back in it, but apparently i didn't need to do that. we hit the mile in about 5:10ish, but it slowed significantly from there. once i realized there was no one behind me, i think i fell out of it mentally. i was still trying to make progress from barrier to barrier, but i got tired and didn't fight it. i still ran a pr and i was happy with that, but hey, it's only the first year, and i think i can make a lot of progress, especially if i can avoid injury next spring.
all in all, it was a good race, and i am very happy that i was able to make it to UAAs. i was bummed that i got last place, but those kind of things don't get me down for very long.
cooled down with the other steeple and 4x8 guys around campus, banquet-- i ate a ton of food, ice bath, watched the 10k.
