Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
The 10k was at 7, so I had most of the day to kind of hang out. Did homework in the morning, went to Blimpie for lunch, then to the track at 2. Watched the steeple, then went inside for a while. It was overcast and not hot, which I was very happy with. The banquet was at 5, so I could've gone and hung out with people, but instead I finished my sociology homework. Talked to Coach a little, and I was feeling really good. Dave Carter offered to warm up with me which was really nice, and we went through the pretty neighborhood and the path that'd we'd been on the day before. Uniform, drills, striders. A ton of people stayed from all teams, which surprised me. A big group of our people stayed and were cheering really loudly before it started. It was 0.5% embarrassing and 99.5% awesome. So mostly awesome. I even got a "T-H-E-A what's that spell?" cheer. While we were getting instructions on the line, of course :) Anyway, the race started and I felt good. I stayed in the back, because I knew that as long as I was with a pack, it didn't matter where I was in the pack for the beginning. I really can't point to one point in the race where I felt like I died, or gave up. So I'm not super disappointed and I don't feel like I wasted my time coming and running. I tried hard the whole time... I just got tired. It's so long. The only thing I wish I had done differently was to follow my one instruction, which I got both from Coach and Andrea (who sent me tips throughout the day), which was to not go out faster than pace. I wanted to run consistently as possible at 6:20, and I cam through mile 1 at 6:10. I felt like I was jogging, but I was still mad at myself for doing it because I knew it was stupid. There was some mental swearing at myself at the mile mark. Next time I'm going out absolutely no faster than pace. My time wasn't all that great, it was like what we were tempoing at during xc, which is a little embarrassing, but I'm pretty confident that if I can run a more consistent race, I can drop some time. You have to have so much patience running this race. Even halfway through there's a ton of race to go. A lot can happen, which is cool. I just need to be able to put myself in the right position for that to be possible. Wanted to score, so that was a bummer that I was 12th, but I'm glad I ran it and I'm not beating myself up about it. Afterwards I really just didn't want to move ever. Cooled down a grand total of 3 minutes and 14 seconds with Corey, then called my mom and watched Carter's race. Then back to the hotel for the team meeting and pizza with Coach and Carter.
