Pickerel Creek Road Out and Back 4 Miler

May 24, 2011 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Sunny, almost sundown

Comments:
Started this run with already tired legs from a day of marking 40's in the worst terrain the Northwoods has to offer. Really wasn't sure if I should even go today considering yesterday was my first day back, but I'm addicted now so I went. Left around 7:30 with the intention of running 3.5 miles. Immediately my left knee began to feel a bit weak. At this moment I made a pact with myself and God that I was going to finish this run or be done with it for the rest of my life. If my knee was going to collapse, so be it. This run right here would be the test to determine if I could ever get back into the game again.
I left at a lot slower pace than yesterday, and after awhile it seemed like I forgot about my knee. Eventually I got out to the turn around point and saw Mike, my roommate, returning from his own run. This made me decide to keep going out to the 2 mile mark which I did. On the return trip I picked it up and kept up a strong pace until the last hill, which burned me out again. My knee began feeling weak again but I kept reminding myself of the pact and pushed on. Knee was getting scary weak towards the end but I made it in a pretty dam good time for being out of the game for so long. Legs are a lot more tired tonight. Probably should take an off day tomorrow but I'm hooked; I'm thinking short run on the trails ;)

The best part is no one knows about RINW (Rebuilding In the North Woods) can't wait until I enter a 5k or 10k in the fall and blow everyone out of the water!!!!
