Nationals Trip Thoughts

November 19, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Other

Comments:
This post just exists to chronicle some of the thoughts I have surrounding the nationals experience in general, outside of the race itself.

I enjoyed virtually every aspect of this trip, and it was an incredible feeling to finally make it to nationals. One of the best things about the meet is that everyone is so happy to be there, unlike early-season meets where people have other things to worry about. This makes the atmosphere awesome because you get to run with the best (D3) runners in the country and everyone has a sort of respect for everyone else because we know how many other teams we had to beat to get there. Of course, no one respects the south/west region teams because they, for the most part, suck, but regardless.

There were a lot of fun moments from the trip, some of which I list here for posterity:
-Max constantly slipping up (pretending to fist Ricky's butthole on the escalator, without noticing the horrified onlookers on the other escalator; yelling, "Enjoy your room, faggots!" at us, as a woman walks directly in front him; saying, "I've got a lot of hair to shave, and I'm not talking about my head" and then seeing Ryan standing next to him; calling someone a faggot as we cool down with Tiny Dancer from Swat (I don't think he heard Max though), and probably others)
-The pingpong tournament in the airport, where each match was one point and single elimination, so the tournament took 3 minutes
-Finding out Bill Harrington of the Hopkins Department of Athletics watches South Park and thought the Penn State episode was "really funny"
-Bobby's brother being an awesome bro in general
-The showers after the race, where the room featured those gay pole showers. There were maybe 30 showers, but 40 guys in there. When we showed up, everyone (everyone) was singing "What a Night", then someone yelled "Break it down!" and like 10 guys just started running back and forth in the shower. When we finally got a pole, I moved to the side slightly (still in the stream, mind you) and some random guy came up to use the shower. I let him take it, because it would have been too weird otherwise. Then someone started a "U-S-A" chant, and we tried to point out that Budman was Canadian, and he got all worried and was like, "I hate it when this happens," as though he frequently showers with 50 other guys and they start patriotic chants.
-Chest-bumping Ricky, only for him to turn his shoulder into me while in midair (much like a middle linebacker trying to truckstick a receiver across middle)
-After the race, UW-Oshkosh was praying in a circle, and Budman was like, "That guy (on their team) literally threw me out of the way as I was passing him in the last 1000 of the race."

I'll add more thoughts as I think of them
