That was a pretty good meet. For the mile I stuck with Thomas and Mitchell Finitz of York for the first 7 laps and they gapped me for the last one, but I still came through in a well-raced 8 second PR. Afterwards I could only stretch and lie about while waiting for the 800. I only had the 400 to rest, and at first I wasn't sure I'd be able to race so soon since I was feeling sick and was unable to stand without wanting to throw up. Luckily a couple minutes before the girls 800 I finally was able to stand up so I jogged a bit and stretched. In the 800 my PR put me as the second seed, close behind Tom Rasche of York, but I was realistically hoping for a 2:15 or so. However I went out right with Tom as well as Thomas Robichaud of Yarmouth, and we went through the first 2 in 30.mid, which was quite a surprise. I felt good so I passed Thomas on the second lap and tried to keep contact with Tom. He accelerated a bit going into the third lap but I still was close by, and I went through the 4 in 63. From there I stayed a couple meters behind him until the last lap, where he picked it up and I was finally feeling the affect of the mile. I finished in 32 or so for a 2:09.35, which placed me in second ahead of a large, compact group of runners who were on my tail for the last lap. That was a pleasant surprise since the year before a 2:09 would have been a decent time for me if I ran it fresh. It was definitely a confidence booster and I think I'm ready to break 2:04 on Friday, or at least PR.
The 4x2 was a bit nerve-wracking since we hadn't done much hand-off practice and it was very loud, so I ended up going off early before Murry gave the first command, getting our A team DQ'd. We had already lost the meet to York at that point, but it didn't lessen the blow for me. Luckily Reid ran a faster leg than me anyway so he's back on the A team. My leg was 25.high including the beginning where I stopped in a futile attempt to avoid a DQ, but after starting my leg I stayed with a pretty fast York sprinter, so I was probably 24.high without that mishap at the beginning.
