State Quals

May 31, 2012 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
God awful mile. 63 69 then 4:40. Kind of hilariously awful, not really sure what happened, wheels just came off early

4x8 was awesome. Started out in the middle of the lead pack with Corning and Norwich out in front then my pack a few yards back. It strung out after the first lap and I was hanging on to the back. With 200 left I just kind of went and passed almost the entire field, definitely Corning, and maybe got Norwich? Not sure. Got out in about 60, and probably closed in about 62. Erin had me at 2:01, Billy at 2:03, other people who handed off around and behind me were saying they were 2:02, so I'm more likely to go with Erin's (also because it's faster). Spent the rest of the relay sprinting back and forth between the straightaways screaming for teammates. With Dracup's monster 53.5/1:56.6 split we hit 8:05 and beat Corning. No states, but that wasn't our goal.

Writing this is kind of sad, because with this log comes the end of a pretty important time in my life and the end of my active involvement in Ithaca XC and Track (once a member always a member obviously). Over the past 4 years on this team I've grown in so many ways. I went from being a skinny awkward freshman trying to make it on to the team going to invites freshman year and be top 5 on JV to being a skinny awkward senior trying to put my team in the best possible situation to go to state quals, states and Feds. Being on this team I've had to learn to be confident and self aware both in and out of races and runs in general. I owe this team more than I can ever really pay back to it, and I'll always be thankful for what it's given me. It's sad to be leaving it but there's plenty of good that comes with it too. With my year gone from the team there's room for another class to come up and understand what it means to be part of our team and with my time on this team completed I have the opportunity to experience an entirely new team and become a part of their tradition. I'm excited to move on to newer things, but there'll always be some part of me wishing I was on the trails with the guys here.

More practically, now it's time for a nice 2 week break, then look for my runs to pop up on the Wesleyan XC log page rather than here.
