Not a bad debut. I ran only 19 seconds slower than I did as a sophomore here, and 18:41 is a pretty good time (although Freeport is at least 30 seconds fast, but no one needs to know that). I raced in trainers for the support and so I'd have an extra excuse if this went poorly, so that probably slowed me down a bit, but I still managed an 11th place finish for our surprisingly deep team. I started the race pretty far back, like in the last quarter of the pack, but I quickly moved up to half way and then spent the rest of the race slowly pushing myself more and constantly passing people, and although I'm 4 spots from 7th on our team, only 35 seconds separate us. I think it would be manageable to drop that much time in the next few weeks once I start doing more workouts and wearing spikes, so I might not miss states after all.
