The meet went well today. In the 800 the next fastest seed was 2:11 (I was seeded 2:10 from my double so I was shooting for 2:06 at the very least, 2:04 was my ideal goal), so I was facing the prospect of leading an open 800 for the first time since... well, probably that really windy meet at the beginning of outdoor last year. I was both excited since a win was guaranteed and nervous about what I'd run without anyone to push me. Well, my first lap was a tad fast with 29-30, then I went through the half in somewhere around 61. Then I think I was 1:34 and then 2:05.39. For racing alone, I could not have asked for better than that, that puts me ahead of where I was this time last year and it also shows that I can run a pretty good time alone, which is a good skill to have for the 4x8. I'm thinking now that I have a pretty good time set in the 800, I'll run a 4 next week and then come back for the meet before conferences to throw down one more time in the 8. Spencer will probably do the same so that we can push each other.
The 4x2 was a nice end to the day. Once again I was anchor so I wouldn't have to participate in more than one handoff, so when I got the baton we had a good lead on Wells, our only competition. Unfortunately they had the reigning state record holder in the 55 and second returner in the 200 anchoring their 4x2, so I knew even the largest of gaps would shrink considerably over 200 meters in a race between us. So basically I had no choice but to focus on my turnover and hope for the best, which was barely enough. He did catch up a fair bit from the videos I saw, but luckily our handoffs were much better all around so we got the edge on them by half a second. I didn't catch my split but I'm hoping it's at least 25 dead (Edit: It was 24.7! Thanks to my time drop compared to the 25.mids I was running before, we're currently leading class B!)
