Ran the 1600 today. Ran really well. Came in second. The wind was pretty bad today; I'd estimate about 20 miles an hour. We could really feel it on the home stretch. Everyone in the race decided it would be a sit and kick race. The competition was pretty steep-just about all the top guys in Section 4 were in it as well as a 4:23 guy from NE Bradford. I got off the line pretty well and was in the lead for the first 200, mostly because nobody really wanted to be up there and I wanted to get in good position. I slowed it down to 5:20 pace to force someone else to take it and break the wind. Cory was the one who went for it. We went through in 69. On the back stretch, with the wind at his back, Cory threw in a huge surge, trying to gap the pack and make us take the wind as well. I responded and brought the pack back on his heels. Ran another 69. With about 650 left, I realized that with all the fast kickers in the race I didn't have a chance of doing well if I left the race to a 200 meter sprint. I threw in everything I had. I wanted to see what would happen. If people went with me I hope we would all use up everything we had left with goal of toughing it out longer than them. If nobody went I hoped to gap them enough so that they didn't have a shot at catching back up. I did put a huge gap on them, but in the end Dan Dracup blew by me on the home stretch. Everyone else was catching me, but I had put enough distance between us to stay safe for a second place finish. Was 68, 68 on the second 800 to run a 4:35. No too bad considering the race strategy and poor weather conditions, and I am very happy with my place and good reactions during the race. All in all, a very good strategic race.
