Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Right from the get-go I knew this was going to be bad. Bad enough, in fact, that by mile 1 I accepted that I might not make my time I wanted. Stomach was feeling all kindsa weird, getting side stitches, sloshing around whenever I drank, felt like I was gonna throw up, etc. Tried to run as much as I could but had to take a short walk break 1-2 times between each aid station. I had seen my awesome mom and aunt as I finished the bike and started the run, so I had that pushing me and it helped. Just tried to stay in the moment, and let the miles tick away. Started getting pretty hot on the first out-n-back; during the second the sky went grey and it felt amazing. 3rd the rain was still holding off and I was able to finish strong.
Hardly ate anything... 2 gu's, some pretzels, and a honey stinger. Other than that just gatorade, water, and some broth. Asked for COKE with 2 miles to go for one last kick in the butt, and instead they OPENED a can of PEPSI... NOT coke nor was it flat. Ugh...
Went pee about 3 miles into the last loop and it looked like tea so I decided no matter how much I had to walk (to let liquid settle) I was drinking at least 3 cups of something at each aid station. Started feeling a bit better lol.
Overall amazing race. I want to do another one in the future, as now I know some more key facets of training to focus on (ALWAYS run off the bike). Rain held off until I was putting my bike in my car! Got a gallon of water, quart of chocolate milk, and a Chipotle burrito bowl for the ride home. Good day.
