Big PR at Princeton

April 18, 2014 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Got a lot of sleep last night, and then I actually got a nap in during the afternoon before we left for Princeton. My legs were actually feeling pretty good on the shakeout mile that we did when we first got there. As usual, I got to watch a ton of awesome races before I had to go on my warm up. Felt pretty good on that, too. I was shitting my pants thinking about the race, but I was ready to roll when I got a few laps in. I was out in 4:31 with Ty and Mahalsky, and then when the lead pack broke off I hit 3k in 8:33, which was off pace for 14:10, so I knew I had to pick it up. The funny thing was, I felt the entire time during the last 5 laps that I had 14:10 in the bag because I was feeling so good. I broke away from the pack I was running with and began to overtake some more guys. I saw 13:07 with a lap to go and knew I had to move. I was flying with 300 to go but I may have kicked too early, as I struggled in the last 50 meters or so. Finished in an even 14:10, which may or may not be fast enough to go. We will see. Cooled down with Ty and a kid from Dartmouth who ran 14:15 in our race. He was pretty cool. Glad I was finally able to rip a huge PR tonight. I needed that for the sake of my confidence.
