First orienteering meet

March 21, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 3-4 inches of snow on the ground, near 40

Comments:
Drove up to PA Friday afternoon. Went mid morning to Ridley Creek State Park to check out the big orienteering meet at which we'll be distributing the Iain Wilson Award tomorrow. Got taught the fundamentals, signed up and went to the start with Marmot and Graeme Wilson. Started 1 min ahead of Marc on a recreational yellow course. Snow cover was beautiful, fun, and challenging. I really enjoyed it and was disappointed it ended so soon. It took me 29:21 (1:15 faster than Marc). Took one stupid wrong turn early on, but ran "pretty clean" after that. Without a proper warm up, I was feeling fairly winded early on, and the footing was tough, but I got into a rhythm and can't help feeling I was meant to do this sport as I love navigation, nature, trails, and running, and I'm not afraid to run through underbrush. Didn't quite satisfy my desire for a run, but tired me out significantly. Roll Tide!
