Dan Fravil's Ithaca Relays

April 24, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Ithaca relays was a pretty good experience for me. It was really cold when the relays first started and I had a ton of layers on. I got a good progressive warmup and drills/strides(400m) in before my first event the smr, 800 leg. But when I got into the clerking area they made us wait so long so I got really cold and stiff. I was just standing out there in hardly any clothes for what seemed like a long time. We sorta messed up on the handoff. But then I looked up and I was pretty far away from the two leaders. I felt okay for the first 300 meters then my back felt really stiff and that led to the rest of my body feeling very stiff. I really didn't feel like myself out there. I just wanted to grind out the last 500 meters. I felt like I did a ok job finishing. I my time wasn't too bad for the cold, windy conditions, and how stiff I was but I definitely could have done a ton better. Solid cool down then later I had to warmup and do drills/strides(400m) for the 4x1600. When we got to the clerking area I saw that none of the teams had any of their good runners there. So I told Coach W and he thought we should just do 90% and save it for ties against Corning. I thought this was a good idea. I was so relaxed at the starting line. I could feel like for the first few laps I wanted to go fast but I knew I should save it. I just stayed in the lead by like 5 meters for the first 3 laps and I was just relaxed. Then I just opened it up to make sure I gave Silas a lead for the next leg. I was told I went like a 60 for the last lap. I think Eric got me at about a 4:44. I felt good, much better than the 800 and was happy I saved some for Tuesday by only going 90%. I was a little disappointed Corning didn't come I wanted some competition. Our relay team won the 4x1600. And more importantly both our guys and girls won the meet. I was proud to be part of the team.
