State qualifiers

June 4, 2015 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
We got to the meet and I felt a little tired I'm not sure why but I just felt pretty drowsy. Also I was very tense for some reason I had all these knots in my back and I couldn't relax fully but I knew I could only focus on the positives if I wanted to make it to states. I warmed up while cheering on the guys in the steeple. Hunter had a pretty good race and Niall fell over the water barrier and could never really recover. I did all the drills and strides before the race then lined up for the race I was pretty calm, just talking to the other guys and thinking this is just another race just do what you've been doing all season. We started and I immediately got boxed in. My goal in the race was to stick on Richard Buchanan and Dan Schafer for the whole race. But since I was boxed in I really couldn't get to them. I tried to force my way around the outside at the first 300 mark but I couldn't do it. I made a in-race decision there that instead of trying to pull a risky move and catch up to the leaders I was just gonna sit in the second pack and the top guys from Division 1. So I could still go to states. The top 2 guys were both from small schools. We came through in 65 for the first lap a solid pace. I'm pretty sure the next lap was the same. I know the pace felt the same. I could never get relaxed for the whole race though. In the third lap I started to get into position. Me and Jarred from Corning(my competition to get into states) and Parrish from Owego started to break away into our own pack. I was pretty tense in this last lap and was just trying to force my strides out but I kept thinking this will not be my last race. So at the 200 mark I let my full kick out and extended it to the finish where I got 3rd and qualified for states. I was excited even though I didn't get a 4:18 the time I wanted but I will be able to chase that goal next week. Where I will have no pressure and have nothing to lose. I did a cool down then later a warmup for the 4x8 with Ian who had a great 1600 in 4:39, hunter and Niall. When the race went off I had to start in the outside start which sucked but we went out quick. I came through 200 in 25 and 400 in 58 I sorta slowed down a little until the 550 mark where I realized that I was feeling pretty good and started to move up I got the team into 2nd place to start out the relay. And I just wanted us to be in the best possible position. Our team came in 6th with a 8:25. We were all pretty happy about our times but I did want to break 2. I did a long cooldown afterwards. It was hard saying goodbye to Lucas who had a killer 3200 in 9:46 and Niall but I know I'll see them at summer runs and some meets here and there. I was overalls happy to make it to states and I feel like it will be a great experience. That was the main goal of today. But next time I hungry for that 4:18 and I know I am capable of doing it.
