March 2, 2016 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Chilly, but I was bundled up well
Comments:
6x300 then 4, 2, 1. 1 minute cool down between 3s, longer between 3 and ladder. 1 minute between ladder.
It was weird being on the track, doing speed-work without it being a bitter cold winter track day. I like it.
300s:
50.5
52.1
52.02
52.7
52.8
54.4
400: 66
200: 31.7
100: 14
A day out, I'm pretty happy with the workout. The 300s felt controlled, right up until the last one. I pushed 5, and that felt fine, but around the 150 mark on 6 I started having trouble getting the lift I wanted. It wasn't quite like going down a gear, more like running out of gas. Might be related to the frankly horrible amounts of sleep I've been getting this week, might just be the beginning of the season. Could also be my inability to pace workouts. In any event, I enjoyed the workout, especially the 400. I think more mileage in the winter would have improved my ability to recover faster, but worth it to still be mostly injury free.
I've had a nagging pain in my right foot that I think is a result of overcompensating for the turf toe I got on sunday from missing a step. Should go away soon. If not, maybe I need new trainers.
I'm looking forward to discus and jumping. I've been looking into decathlon marks for schools I've applied to, and most of them seem reasonably within reach. I just have to get a pole vault mark, get William to teach me how to high jump, and then find a way to practice javelin in DC. Besides that, its smooth sailing.
I think weird events are my thing. I really want to run a steeple some time this season. Not sure if they are 2k or 3k in high school. I'll probably need hurdle practice though. Add that to the list of things I need for the decathlon.
Right now, I'm excited to see what I can get done this season. I've never trained for this long before, so I really don't know what to expect. I hope that any combo of training doesn't stretch everything too thin. For the rest of the season, I need more sleep, but I feel like I never get anything done without being tired.
