Potomac Meet

I was scheduled for Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot put and Discus. No track, just field.
I was worried everything was going to be going off at the same time, but everything was more or less spaced out. Only conflict was with long jump and shot put. I was running back and forth between the two, taking off spikes and putting them on every two minutes. I later learned that I could have just waited on all my jumps until after shot was over. Oh well.

Shot went ok, 30'4", if I remember correctly. Off a spin too, which is the best spin I've had yet. I think discus practice has helped. Hopefully I'll be able to get it farther with better spin technique.

Long Jump was interesting. Interesting time getting the steps and jump down with a pit. First jump was a 15'4", a few inches off the board. Next one was way off the board, came out to about the same distance. I felt a little strain in my left hamstring, but ignored it and went to throw shot. Last jump was weird. My steps were off, and I ended up launching from so far back that I ended up just an inch over the 5 ft board. Measured from that board as a foul, it came out to around 17'8". So good third jump, but I pulled my left hamstring on it, and wasn't able to run afterwards. I scratched the fourth jump and Triple, but I finished with discus.

Discus was good. Best throw was 74'8", standing. I had practiced spin over the weekend, but I tried it and I couldn't get the motion right with my hamstring, so I just did standing. Got one good practice one in, over 65', and then threw three more or less same-ish throws. Second was the longest, but Tayo said third had the best form. I'll work on spin, which I think I can get some extra distance out of. Hopefully I'll be able to pull 100' by the end of the season.

Not too jazzed with the meet over all. Good marks in the Long and Discus, but shot was so-so and I would have liked to try Triple. Hope this hamstring feels better tomorrow so I can start training again. Also left a spike bag with stuff in it at the meet. Trying to get it back now, but I feel like an idiot. But I can't really complain. Big first marks in LJ and Discus, with improvement hopeful. And I'm feeling much more relaxed about everything now. Good way to start the week.
