Mt. St. Marys Race

September 4, 2009 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Warm and Sunny

Comments:
Then warmed up 25 minutes straight at Mt. St. Marys (with strides in spikes on the line). Ran easy 20 min on the course then did 5 minutes of on and off striders on the track and grass to get ready. Legs felt more ready the more running I did. Warmup totaled 3.75 miles for a total of 7.4 miles before the race. Warmup started at 12:10 for the 1pm race.
Race 5k. - (Ran in Red Milers) - Got out good then sat behind the leader from Mt. St. Marys for the first mile. The whole race was in one big pack at that point. Right after the mile I took the lead and pressed to build up about a 5 seconds lead at best. In the first mile I had to work a bit because I was trying to shake the rust off my legs but I was good to go by 1200 in. About 1.5 miles in I started to feel the lead and 3200 the race had come back to me and Jeremy took the lead and Jeff was right there too. I followed Jeremy until the Pond with like 800 to go then went around and pushed hard until the finish. Never really sprinted but I just increased the pace and got moving the last half mile to close it out. Throughout the race my legs felt tired pretty much the whole way and I felt like I didn't have much pop in them but I was able to run 5 minute pace regardless which I was happy with. Overall very good day for myself and the team. 15:42.52
