Windsor invitational

April 16, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
We got to Windsor and the distance guys got in a shake out run in the infield. I have definitely been sore the past 2-3 days even after I rolled at home. Especially in my glutes, hamstrings, abductors, and the muscles in front of and behind my armpits(I didn't pay enough attention in gym class to know what those are). It definitely helped when I started running but it was hard to get my arms to come all the way back because of that. Anyways we waited around for a little putting up the tent then we went on our progressive warmup up into this trail and around a field and picked it up only a little every 5 mins. We got our stuff and figured out that we were late and baker was pissed. I guess they called our names on the loud speaker 3 times. Anyways we got there and we were fine. I got a few strides and drills in and then I was set. The order was Neil, Hunter, Silas, me. Neil led it off and looked really strong the first lap. He died just a little bit at the end but if he kept grinding it out and pumped his arms back he could easily change that 2:06 to a 2:02. Next was hunter he actually looked pretty smooth throughout, hit a 2:08. I couldn't watch Silas enough because I was getting ready to go. But he didn't look too bad himself and I'm pretty sure he was running by himself which is tough, he hit 2:11. I got the baton and I was ready to go. Corning was out of reach but the Elmira guy was only like 75 meters ahead of me so I knew I had him. I was hounding that guy down until the 300 mark and I already had him. I didn't really know what to do after that. I picked it up at 400 and tried to keep squeezing it out. There was no one to have really so I was trying to find motivation out of myself. Weishaar said "be smart" which I knew meant you can save it for the 3200 if you want. But I felt like I owed it the the guys to help them hit a fast 4x800 time after they went all out. I also wanted to break 2. I just turned on my kick and finished strong. Hit 30-30-30-28. It was 1:58 low. I was pretty pumped because it's been a long time coming with sub-2. Our team got 8:25 all together. Felt stiff afterwards, but once we started our cool down I felt a lot better. After that I had about 4 hours until my next race. I tried to stay out of the sun but my face still got burnt. We watched Ian and Ronan run the mile which wasn't too bad of times for them. Ian still being sick and not having consistent training under him, and for Ronan's first mile ever 4:50 is not bad. Me and Neil went down to the track to watch the 800 and planned on warming up after the 800 was done. We watched Silas and Hunter race but beforehand the refs brought them to the outside of the track with 30 mins before their race so they just cooked in the sun. Hunter did about 25 strides but I didn't see Silas. The race started and they immediacy fell back, they were trying to move up but I could tell the sun was getting to them. They each hit 2:12. We were about to start our warmup when we heard second call for the 3200 which was way too early. We couldn't get in a warmup outside the track so we had to squeeze in a warmup in the infield in segments, a little before we got called over, a little after we registered, and then a little while the first heat was going. They brought us on the heat while the second heat was going which took about 25 mins. I felt like we were on the track for forever. I was really heating up and starting to get dizzy. I knew the heat was going to effect my time but I still wanted to get a good workout after the race. Weishaar told me to aim at getting out at 4:50 but the heat might push that back 10-15 seconds. The race started and everyone took it out a little quicker than my 72 per lap goal. I stated in about 6th for the first lap but midway through the second lap I went up to the front. This race was different for me because I'm used to sticking on a pack or someone and getting dragged to fast times then kicking rather than doing all the work but it's something I need to learn how to do. Then next few laps were slower than I wanted. I was holding back a good amount so I really didn't feel all that tired I just felt drowsy from the heat. My arm form was off for the first mile, me and Weishaar figured it out that my arm form gets all messed up when I hold back because I'm trying to force my body to do something, as the race progressed my arms got better. Came through the mile at 5 flat-5:01. The next lap was pretty much the same. Picked it up a little bit to hit about a 73. I still wasn't hurting here but just trying to get my legs moving. The kid from binghampton was still somewhere around me but I pushed it out of my head as I was in my own lane now. I started to crank the laps down after this. The wind on the back stretch was going a little bit but I was just trying to grind out the last few laps and see how much I could negative split the goal of the race. Hit around a 72 for the next lap. The last two laps I was hurting a little bit, even though I wasn't going my full page you still hurt. Started really squeezing it down the last 600. Hit 71 for the next lap. Then just picked it up more and more from 400 until I went at 200. I was just thinking about our repeat 200's we did Thursday. Hit a 64 for the last lap. Finished in 9:41. Broke the meet record by 2 seconds. Wasn't all out of energy but I was tired. Split 4:41-4:40 for my last mile. It was definitely a lot more tough to negative split than it is to positive split but I think that's why Weishaar is having us do these types of races. I feel like if I went out at 4:40 or below it would be easier to close in 4:40. Got in a nice long cool down with Neil. Went for 20 mins. He was disappointed with his race at first but then he realized that we were holding back for the first mile and that we were out in the heat so you couldn't really expect that fast of a time. After 20 mins we did some ins and outs on the infield and called it a day. Our guys team got killed out there because all day long all I was hearing was excuses. Partly it is the coaches fault for only bringing 5 sprinters which is not nearly enough. But if coach tells me I'm running something, I'm running it. There's not picking and choosing events like they wanted to do. Abe and Nathan were the only 2 sprinters who didn't complain. The rest were saying they were injured when they were really just sore. Maybe they wouldn't be so sore if they did a cool down or warmup. But it might be different for sprinters. We're gonna have to figure something out before relays.
