Loucks Games

May 14, 2016 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Couldn't really sleep all that well last night because Coach Parker gave us a crappy hotel right on the highway and there was noise all night long. Did a 16 minute shakeout run with Neil, Ian, and Ronan. Hunter did his earlier on. We went through this nice little suburb. Watched a little TV then left for the meet at 11. Got to the high school and watched the mile race. Tooker won with a nice kick. He looked pretty smooth throughout. I wasn't really nervous at all today throughout. It was really hot and sunny out, so we stayed in the shade under this tree and out on sunscreen. The sun really took a lot out of you as I was tired all day long. Hunter warmed up for his steeple and we watched him. He went out a little too hard and expended a lot of energy jockeying for position. He looked just tired and out of it out there and didn't have his best race. The top guy ran a pretty quick time pretty much alone for the last 800 meters. We relaxed for another 45 mins then started our warmup around the school then into this really nice neighborhood with a lot of big houses. Came back after like 21 mins and checked in for our race. Did drills and strides and was ready to go. Weishaar got us to loosen up and we were just talking before the race, really allows you to forget about the nerves when you talk before a race. Neil seemed really nervous though. We went out to the track and lined up for the race. It started and Neil immediately got passed on the start and was in last, it was such a tough field though. Ian got the baton and had to dodge a guy walking off the track. Ian had a really solid leg and then I got the baton in a pretty big mass of people. It was hard to judge my pace because I was with a few guys who were slower than me. Got out comfortably and felt pretty smooth, didn't feel tight at all. With 300 left I realized that I wasn't going as fast as I needed to, and realized that I was faster than everyone near me. I let my arms go, and pump back and they were going in stride with my legs. It just felt really good. I passed one guy with 300 left and another with 200 left then passed 5 guys in the last 200 meters. I was just picking them off around the bend. I handed it off to Ronan and realized that I wasn't breathing hard all race, and also that I had way too much after the race. I felt like I could've gone for another 200 meters. Ronan finished it for us and we hit 8:24. I wish I could've gone first and raced it out, I feel like I could've gotten a better effort out of myself. But it is what it is. We did a long cooldown into the nice neighborhood again. I added on a little more to get 21 mins. We got out of there as soon as possible. We got home late that night. Loucks wasn't the best experience for me, I got bumped from the 3200 and didn't have my best race. But I'm happy that I went because now I feel like I have some adversity. They didn't think I was good enough to be in that 3200 so now I'm gonna show them that I am good enough. I am gonna start doing more stretching and rolling and abs. I'm gonna push myself a little bit more in each workout.
