July 9, 2016 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: humid, but maybe not quite as hot as last few days, 70s
Comments:
Was supposed to run with Jenny M-C at 7:15 but alarm confusion and subsequent forgetting of running shoes meant we ended up starting and finishing at her apt. I lead us down the abandoned Klingle Rd which is being transformed into a nature trail. We took the Valley trail to Boulder Bridge and returned on the road and bike path. Jenny doubled back to get some hills and mileage at Peirce Mill and I dragged myself up Klingle. Pace was never brisk by any means, but I definitely allowed myself to relax and slow down when alone. I dreaded that hill for the mile leading up and throughout every step, even though my body didn't feel particularly bad going up. I am just at that rock bottom point of my summer training (mentally, that is). I know I'll start getting better feeling days next week now that I've finished three weeks of summer training and am becoming acclimated to the humidity, but this week has simply been brutal as all I am feeling is fatigue and the horrendous effects of the humidity and heat. Must stay patient and positive. Surely better days are ahead... If I've learned anything in 43 years, it is that these horrible weeks of running at the start of summer will translate to happy runs in the autumn.
