Forest Frolic 15k

July 17, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: high 70s

Comments:
I ran the Forest Frolic 15k, which is near Greek Peak. Coach B said I could run this race. Actually, according to the FLRC site, this course was 8.9 miles, instead of 9.3 miles which is what 15 kilometers really is. The race was a lot slower than I expected, with lots of steep hills, and trail running is going to produce a slower pace anyway. At one point, there was a very steep hill, where everyone ahead of me started walking. I made myself at least slowly jog up it, because I would've felt guilty afterwards if I had walked it. I didn't stop to walk at all throughout the race. There were lots of rocks, logs to jump over, roots on the trail, riverbeds to cross, and frequent turns. The first half was tough, because I may not have been warmed up enough, and my right hamstring was a little bit sore. I accidentally followed some people ahead of me off the course, which in the end only added about 15 or 20 seconds to my time. My time below reflects this. The race felt like it was longer than 8.9 miles, but I don't run on trails too much so I guess they will always slow me down more. I had a good kick at the end of the race. Saw Weishaar afterwards; he had just done the 7k, placing 4th overall. When I got back home, I did drills, strides, and stretched. I also did abs (1 minute plank, 30 leg lifts, 51 crunches, 120 total cherry-pickers) and 51 push-ups.
