Coaching a fartlek for Tobi

August 6, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 70s, huimd and sunny

Comments:
With Stephen, Jonny, and Tobi. I suggested Tobi do random pick-ups of my choosing along the route. He did 7 of varying length with a few hills mixed in. The brothers just ran Dad's loop and I added on a bit with Tobi up cobblestone hill to the Grant Circle and back to Boat Beach where I swam a bit and brothers swam a lot more than me. On the run, I was consciously trying to hold the pace back for Steve (and also somewhat for Jon), but I admit I just am not feeling like it would be easy to go sub 7s. The knees, for one, are both so, so achy all the time. The right foot plantar causing me to hobble every single time I sit for more than 5 minutes. Energy level on the runs isn't good... But I am feeling so much less awful than last week, so that must be worth something. It would be nice to have a good day, at some point soon. Tobi looked good. I did do one pick up with him along Walsh form Easton to the house and that turned into a near all-out kick for me as we pushed each other quite a bit for the last quarter of a mile. The standard Dad's loop was over 30 minutes and pace got slower (as I waited for fading brothers) from low 8:00 to nearly 8:30 per mile. Despite the mellow nature of the run and pace, there was nothing refreshing of smacking of recovery to be had. I have been keeping up pretty well with push ups probably about 4 times per week for the past month. Also... I rowed three kids around Brant Point to Children's Beach into a serious current. Massive blisters and about 45 minutes of effort.
