Overall today felt pretty happy with what I accomplished. Took me some convincing from coach B, Liam, and Silas before I realized that today was a pretty good day. Started today with the 1.5 mile course run through. Then we waited around awhile before getting a good 10 min warmup in and then drills and strides. During strides some kid on another team said "Hey look they all have the same spikes except for their top guy so he can show that he's the alpha male" that really pissed me off. Anyways the race started and it was pretty confusing. We went out at a perfect pace, execpt Corning literally did the same thing. It took about 150 meters for Kevin Moshier to already ask what we were doing for today's race. I said "you'll just have to see." We kept it at a solid tempo from there on out with different guys taking the front at different times. I thought that was really cool. At anytime we would have one of 5 guys taking the pace. The Corning team literally said that their coach told them before the race to do whatever we were doing, that was there game plan. In my mind that's very weak, that means we are dictating how they do their workout. I know coach B would never have us do something like that. After the first lap which felt extremely slow to me went by coach told us to pick it up. We definitely sped the pace up a good amount. Noah and Ian actually led the charge for the first like 400 meters. About the halfway point I felt a little discomfort in my Achilles, no pain just like a tugging feeling. It was on and off for the rest of the race after that. Once we got out of the woods Kevin just went for it. I wanted to go up with Silas but like he was telling me I haven't developed those fears that I can switch from. I did keep pushing to stay with Neil and Ian but I could feel like muscularly my body's as fighting me. My arms and legs we hard to move because of the lactic acid. Cardiovascularly I felt fairly good, but just the fact that I haven't been running as much made it hurt. I just wanted to gut it out to the finish from there. Kevin took off hard but then sorta leveled off after that. I know Derf could have caught him and in a few weeks I probably could've gotten him too. The last 200 meters I just flew down the downhill and caught 4-5 guys. I can't even remember who I was just going. Can always rely on that natural speed no matter how I'm feeling. Eased up at the line because I didn't want to do anything to my achilles. Afterwards I didn't really know how to feel. I wasn't mad but I wasn't happy. I was definitely happy to be back and happy my Achilles wasn't hurting. But i wished I could've gotten just a little more out of myself. But that's just how it works, I sorta forgot how much you can push yourself because it's been so long and I've missed so many workouts. It really has been only like 3 weeks of training consistently since I've been back and one I only ran ever other day. So I don't really know how much I can get out of myself yet. Finished with a cooldown with the guys and the heel drops and icing my Achilles. Excited to keep working towards getting better. Only up from here.
