Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Damn last time at Mcquaid. Have had a great 4 years here and can't believe this is my last time. We started with a course run through and then we just waited in the tent for a few hours until our race started the time flew by but I was just enjoying it. I don't really get as nervous throughout the day of a race. We did or warmup, about 15 mins then we went to the line. I saw the Affolders which meant the race would go out extremely quick. I knew that I couldn't be tempted and had to stick to the plan. The race went out hard just like I had expected. I was a little behind Silas, Neil, Ian, and Xander. It was tightly packed across the bridge but I didn't have a problem moving around people. Under the bridge I took a little look back to see that Noah was still on me which was the plan. I was supposed to take him through at 5:10. We got in one section where a group of 3 guys from one team were slowing the pace down making it impossible to move up, and I knew we had to get around, so I took two of the kids shoving them either way beside me. One kid spun out and the other was swearing at me. It was just what I had to do. We came to the mile mark and I was slower than 5:15 pace, so way too slow. I knew I had to start moving up. From the race video I was in 69th at the mile mark. The guy who ended up getting 69th went a 153. Going down the hill I passed Xander I told him that it was time to start moving up. I was just packing people in chunks. In the back stretch I could see the Corning guys way ahead and I wanted to really cut down on that lead but I knew I couldn't do it at once and I had to be smart and be patient, just keep moving up. I passed a few people on the down hill leading into the back stretch and at the 2 mile I was in 35th. I probably went 5:10 for that next mile. So again too slow. The 35th place guy ended up going 162. I passed Ian at the 2 mile mark and told him that we gotta just get through the next mile. The last time on the up hill I really started moving, I was about 1000 meters out and I was just counting off heads. I caught Derrick at the top of the hill and started building after the downhill. I caught Gahagan on the uphill and he was toast. I just used that down and was flying I was in a full kick, and I knew I had a little too much left. I passed Neil and finished hard almost catching Corning's 2. Coach said I had like 2:11 last 800, I was probably a little slower but the point is I had too much left. I ended up being 12th so an okay low stick but I am not satisfied at all I have a lot of work to get back up with Derf. Probably a 5 flat last mile for me. I'm done being cautious. These races are feeling too easy for me. I need to at least take the risk of going out hard to know what will happen, I need to feel the pain. The motto going forward for me is spikes on training wheels off, it's time to go. I know we can get Corning it's only a matter of time. We're all just getting into shape and used to racing again. I just can't wait to race with Derf so we can get our entire pack together. Cole killed it same with Ben and Derf, they were the stars of today's meet. Me and Neil were just saying how we had too much left. Xander's only problem was that he went out of hard. And Ian had SATs which is tougher than many may think. So overall we had good point things we need to work on but we are going in the right direction. Back on the grind for next week.
