My first dog park tempo of the year and actually only my second 20 minute tempo. The last time I did one was in July when I made my first comeback, before getting injured again. Anyways today's tempo felt great. We started with a jog over there, it was raining but not nearly as much as it was when I ran earlier so I was completely fine with that. The jog over felt good. I felt my quad a little but not much. We got over and talked with coach B where we would go with our tempo. Started from the bathroom and started with a full loop around dog park. This lap felt pretty good for me, it never felt like I was pushing at all. At the start, and for probably the first half of the tempo my form for the lower half of my body was a little off. I might've been unconsciously compensating a little for my quad. It made it a little harder but not much. We came through the mile around 5:40. I decided after that I was drift back a little behind Derf, because I trusted his pacing more than mine and I thought that if I went up with him myself or him might've been more likely to push the pace faster than it should be. I knew that workouts like these, are all pack based, that's the priority for workouts like tempos where there's no specific time we need to hit. Plus I was good with him taking the wind. We did another full loop around dog park and this loop I felt a lot better. I felt almost better as the workout went on. We wemt over the hill in the middle and came back around dog park in a half loop. And near the end of this loop I was gonna make sure that Neil wasn't gonna fall off, me and Silas got him to come back up with us for the rest of the loop. We started picking it up a little once we came out of the dog park but once we picked it up a little I felt a lot better. I just gave one long breath and after that my breath was in full control once we came out. I wasn't breathing hard at all. Once we came out I realized that I had no clue what time we were at because I never really thought about it during the tempo. Derf told Neil we had 2 minute left, and that was the only time I knew how long we had gone. We got Neil back up with us for those last few minutes and we sorta squeezed down the pace a little while keeping the pack. It was really cool. That was also the quickest tempo I have ever done in terms of how long it felt. It just flew by, we started and next thing I knew we were at 18 mins. After I was done with the tempo we jogged back and I had a deeper pain in my quad so I stopped for a second. It felt better and better on the way back to the high school after that. I'm not crazy worried about it but I'm gonna make sure it doesn't turn into something bigger. Iced a lot once I got home. I'll see about running tomorrow based on how I'm feeling. Ian should have been at today's workout. He missed a good one that he could have benefitted from a lot. I don't know what he was thinking or what he had to do but he could've at least said something.
