February 5, 2017 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: indoors
Comments:
I actually got a bit of warm up in this year early in the day, and a couple of striders in the 15 minutes before I raced, but I was far from focused or loose. Opted for the "masters mile" and while there was a 36 year old in our section who went out and ran 5:02, I ws the next finisher and alone for the entire race, except when passing. Felt pretty controlled and didn't take any real chances or go far out of my comfort zone. All, in all, I'm pretty satisfied. Even a bit tempted to run another one with greater motivation to see if I could go sub 5:20. A better surface or outdoor track, alone, could make the difference.
Approximate 440 splits:
40.2
40.9 (1:21.1)
41.6
42.5 (2:45.1 and 1:24.1)
41.9
41.9 (4:08.8 and 1:23.7)
40.2
37.7 (5:26.6 and 1:17.9)
total: 5:26.6 (avg 40.9)
Well, I think it is 10 seconds slower than two years ago, but I haven't confirmed that. It is 27 seconds slower than freshman indoors at Haverford. I know that. Alas. At least I'm out there racing it. Took no noticeable cooldown, but did jog to and from corners of the field house as the day progressed.
