After the first day of the Responsive Classroom Training in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia (to which I trained Monday night) I convinced (with very little effort) Laura H and Kim K to run with me around Chestnut Hill. We tried to limit elevation change and ran essentially a large figure eight around the hotel and Germantown Ave. They did great, kept the pace very consistent (Maybe about 11 minute miles?), and politely listened as I rambled on about the interesting architecture and sites of historic Chestnut Hill. Dropped Laura near the hotel at 20 minutes and turned off from Kim at 32 minutes when she was nearly back at the hotel. Built pace from there and quickly found my way to a branch trail of the Wis! Descended a very rocky trail until I reached the covered bridge and the main trail. went south along that for about 1.5 miles, at a pace that dropped from 7:50-7:30. Turned back just south of the Valley Green Inn and exited the park via a paved road which ended up leading right up to the school where we are attending the conference. One more mile from there back to the hotel (the same mile we'd walked home that afternoon.) Left knee was pretty irritated today, but all in all, it felt good to get a run and especially gratifying to be back in the Wissahickon Park for the first time since college. Too bad I can't still race along the steep side trails with teammates anymore. I'll just have to be jealous of Julia Smith and hope I run into her there at 6:00am Thursday morning when I plan to plunge back into the trails. Shoes are wearing down and I'm hopeful my new ones will be waiting for me Friday when I return to DC before I leave Saturday.
