finding flat ground and then wasting it

August 15, 2017 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 80ish and sun

Comments:
Legs were feeling the hills of yesterday, so I paddled the kayak across the lake and up to the end of the fisherman's trail on an inlet. Stashed the boat and ran slowly until the boat landing and then up the main, paved road. Minutes before I'd intended to turn back I saw the dirt road Si had spoke of. I took the left and decided I'd run until the 17:30 mark. At 16:00 I reached the foot of a nasty hill but couldn't turn back. It was unpleasant and slow, but at 17:20 I thought I saw the crest ahead and pushed on to it. Turned after glimpsing the view at 20:30 or so. Returned the way I'd come and felt lousy nearly every step. Paddled briskly back to camp and bathed in the lake. I'd also used the inflatable rowboat a few times earlier in the afternoon. A nice camping trip. I won't log it, but Wednesday morning we tried a pentathlon of sorts. Si and Alden on the team which one, David and Meg on another, and Anna and me on the third place team. My job was to run up the hill to the top of camp and back down to swim about 50 meters. Next I ran the hill again, but was hindered dramatically by the soaking wet slippery sandals. Final leg was a row, bu the oars popped out of the oarlocks so often, I was forced to grab the logs to perform my figure eight and rowed back with a single paddle on alternate sides. great fun, but humbling to come in last.
