Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Perfect
Comments:
I started out the day almost not worried enough, I had managed to talk myself out of any anxiety, which in retrospect was a bit too far. I ate a good breakfast, and when I got there I quickly got ready to run the course. Running the course was fun, I remembered all of the turns and hills and got a feel for the course again. However, I just wasn't really feeling that feeling you get when you are about to race. We warmed up, and got on the line, but I still wasn't even the slightest bit in the racing mindset. the gun went off, and I got out hard which was good, but the only person I was racing mentally with was myself, and it stayed that way for the rest of the race. Going over the bridge for the second time, people started passing me, and I remember not even worrying about it. At that point, mentally, I was thinking about it as a fast run, and not a race. I found Ben and Xander, and we kinda just stuck together the rest of the race. We kept on getting passed by people, and I still wasn't focusing on them. The last 800 or so Xannies broke off from the pack, and we started going a bit faster. We came around the bend into the chute and I was really cooking by then, and I was right alongside Ben at the time. Ben started to pull away, but I didn't let him dust me too much. The thing was, even if this was a corning guy, I still would'nt have beat him, I just wasn't mentally in the race. I pr'd again in speed rating, but that doesn't matter to me. I didn't race this to the extent that I know I could have, and in a race like Manhattan if I don't get my sh** together it will be a massacre. I just need to get pissed if a Corning or Burnt hills guy passes, and get them back. I need to not only get out hard, but also stay there, and hunt for people. This is a serious barrier for me, and something I did pretty well at Baldwinsville, but not perfectly. As for my Boiz, I'd say that, except for Silas, they ran but didn't race, yes 3 of us guys packed up, but we didn't work together as a pack, and we weren't picking off people and getting places.
4/10
Things I did well: I my first 1200 were pretty perfect, I was in the position I needed to be in.
Things I did poorly: What can I say? I didn't race this meet. My head wasn't in the game beforehand, and during the meet I was getting passed like crazy and it didn't effect me. I wasn't hunting like I should be.
Things I can improve upon: I need to be able to get in the racing mindset and "set myself on fire" so to speak. I need to be able to find the balance between being stressed out and being lax as heck, and I better find it before Manhattan.
