Annual Pre-Hoxton workout on the Cathcart Track at the Flippin Fieldhouse

Comments:
Drove out to EHS slightly before the team bus and got started with my run on the track as other teams (and ours) filed in. First mile was "steady." As I loosened up I dropped from 2:00 laps to sub 1:40s and the first mile ended at 7:08. Began to run what I decided would be 4-6 "tempo 400s with 200 meter steady recoveries." Dwyer saw me and jumped in beside me for the second and third wearing his jeans and then rejoined for the last two and a cooldown. As I loosened up and with Jason's presence bringing me into focus, I decided to turn them into something quicker and convinced myself to do 6. Times were:

1:12.1 (7:13 for about 6.5 laps or so.)

I am pleased that I got some speed work in and the effort felt just about right. I was able to push without straining. Long gone are the days where I really have to hurt in a workout, but I did certainly get out of my comfort zone on the later intervals. I also celebrated the ritual of being on an indoor track, grabbing a quick shower, and coaching a fine team through a strong meet. A good day's work.
