Weather: chilly and perfect
Comments:
Jogged over ahead of family. Did a short warm up after getting bibs. Lew, Carol and the girls came just before the start as they were running the 2km. It was my first time doing the new course. Started off comfortable and passed half a dozen kids over the first half mile. Worked up into 4th by the mile, but then one fellow (turned out to be 40) passed me right after the turn around near mile 1.5. He slowly pulled away and I was alone the rest of the way. Having him in sight was helpful and I was gaining on him every uphill, but never really hunted him for real. I was happy to just run alone and stayed adequately focused throughout. It was a very hilly course, but I kept good form and momentum on the ups and worked the downhills with focus. Right after finishing, I jumped in and joined Anna for her last half mile and then Leah and Lew for their final downhills. I was fifth overall and 2nd male over 40. The splits were 6:17, 6:18, 6:28, 6:24, 6:15 (not full mile).
