This seemed like the day to run a marathon

April 1, 2019 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Other

Weather: 40s

Comments:
I figured, "If Matt Simonson can do epic long runs and I've been a runner longer than him, then why am I not testing myself at the marathon distance?" From as long as I can remember, I've told people that I have very little desire to run 26.2 miles. Well, today seemed the day to change that. I've often run in the 22-23 mile range and I've known I was capable of running the distance, but I always vainly thought I should wait until I'd trained properly for 10 months and was focused and could run a time I'd be proud of. Today I'm not in very good shape, but I just figured, what the heck.

It was a bit painful, but I did it. Starting in Bethesda, essentially took Rock Creek to Derwood, like Berenson does and then came back on main roads. Feet were exceptionally sore in the final miles, but other than a substantial fatigue and some chaffing, there was no major hitting of the wall at any specific point. Having started out pre-dawn, it was beautiful to see the sky fill with light and feel the day come to fruition wile pressing on through the challenge.

It was worth the time to map this out beforehand and give or take the nuances of mapping, I am comfortable saying this was at least a marathon if not actually more like 26.5 miles. Total time was a respectable 3:21:34, and I can live with that. Suffice to say I opted not to run at practice in the afternoon and I apologize for the little white lie that I'd had a stomach flu over the weekend. Didn't feel like this was an event worth drawing much attention to. I'm hopeful I can be up for a light run on Tuesday, for that matter, chaffing aside.

Seemed like the perfect way to kick off the month of April. Ran Good.
