Thunder and lightning sends us indoors at STA

July 2, 2019 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 80s and humid with downpour

Comments:
Warning... lots of self pity and reckoning at the end of this one. Also, I'm too irritated to go back and proofread what I wrote below.

Practice moved into the gym at STA due to nearby thunderstorms. If you couldn't find us, we go in those three doors next to the turf "little field" when there's danger and either warm up in the upstairs or downstairs gym. Today after the warm up downstairs, we succumbed to the lingering thunder and took everyone to the weight room in the gym basement. Other than some core work at the end I did nothing athletic. I can' dead bug apparently due to my lower left abdominal strain (or possibly new hernia on the opposite side?)

Drove home after practice and Berenson followed me. We set out for a 30 minute run and looped through Chevy Chase DC and MD. Pace was predictably slow at first but with my guilt for slowing Mark, I was able to build it to a decent clip. mark nicely kept pushing me to go a bit quicker and to go a bit longer. We were rewarded with a satisfying downpour and only minimal electrical activity. Finished with a strong push up the long slope from Zeke's mini circle intersection to Western, but I could never get into a rhythm, and mostly felt grouchy that I wasn't getting a second wind. We probably sank under 7:00 pace at the end... or at least I was working hard enough that it felt like that. The fact of the matter right now is that I don't have anywhere near enough base to get second winds. I'm able to run quick from time to time, but once I start to fade, there is no reserve to call upon. This pain in my lower left abdomen is odd and may have contributed to my cramp when we built the pace, but that could also have to do with the enormous lunch at Q. Every once in awhile, my knees get a stab of tendinitis pain for half a mile or so, and my plantar fascia are tight after any hard effort. My lower right back is still tight, but most of the lingering effects of the hernia seem to be clearing up. I am way to tight, generally speaking in my hips and core and I'm aware that I have next to no strength in my hips. Side plank leg lifts are practically impossible. Ab work is also currently out of the question (see above.) I need to decide what I want the rest of this summer to look like... more floating from one random alumni run to another with some weak STA runs mixed in ...or a disciplined build up of mileage... or a series of workouts and long runs without much focus on mileage? Do I have a hernia, and if so should I see someone about it? I am well over-do to give blood. Hoping inspiration hits soon...
