Last run of 2019

December 30, 2019 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50s

Comments:
Drove down to SF this morning in time for too much Dim Sum and a rendez-vous with a prospective GDS 9th grader and his mom and Leah. Leah and I didn't get out the door at 4:30 as I'd hoped, but we did depart around 5:05 and headed up past Burke to the golf course. Got onto the path around Land's End as the sky darkened, and by the time we rounded to the Western side of the trail, it was only lit by the golden glow over the Pacific. We did some walking down the steps on the trail and as we realized the run would be quite long if we continued to the Sutro Baths, we bailed up a steep roadway into the back of the golf course and eventually continued up (rising like feathers on a breeze) to the Palace of the Legion of Honor. Enjoyed the view from the esplanade for a moment and then headed home across a soggy golf course and down Clement and Geary.

As Leah has received a Garmin for Christmas, she has been tracking our pace all week. We've done about 10:45 pace for nearly every run, but today we were starting off at 10:30s. Pace slowed substantially on the trails and there were a few breaks, but by the final mile we were back to a brisk pace and finished at sub 10 pace with a spirited kick in the final half block. In the end, it was likely Leah's longest ever steady run and one of the faster ones. Despite my grouchiness at starting after sunset we got both great views and an awesome run together, closing out a great 9 days of CA and running together. (backlogging to come...)
