Nature Trail and Harriton

February 22, 2020 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 40s

Comments:
Left home by 8am to drive to Haverford for the celebration of 45 years of Tom Donnelly's coaching. Drive went smoothly and after a driving past the polo fields and walking into and out of the Bakery House, I parked at HPA and encountered Jen Maranzano on my way into the field house. Saw Gaba's impressive mile race and left in a hurry to join a wide-ranging alumni group. Across Featherbed fields and onto the trail counter-clockwise. Turned off with about 10 other alumni to take the path by the meeting house and run Harriton. Maranzano, Tripp, Fraser, Frazer's son Seamus who will be a classmate of Satola's, Berenbom, and numerous younger alumni who set a pace I appreciated but had to work to maintain. Based on people's watches were were slow on the trail and then mostly sub 8 on the roads. Felt like I was able to maintain conversations, but was having to work very hard to move my legs fast enough to keep pace. When I paused to tie my shoe at Bryn Mawr, I had to hustle for 3-4 minutes just to regain the 40 meters I'd lost. Felt like I was doing this run with a 35 pound sack strapped to me compared to the last time I'd run this loop 25 years ago... Oh wait... I was. Also, that was 25 years ago. Still, I loved it and would give my left arm to be living on the mainline for 6 months and running these routes every day.

Rest of the day was quite enjoyable too. So nice to catch up with so many goats and few bees too. Got quick chats with Abe, David King, and Gaba. Showers were cold, unfortunately, and I didn't get home until after 1am, but the speeches for Tom, Seamus, The Dawg (which I gave unexpectedly), and the team were moving and inspiring. Dinner int he DC and a ginger ale at a gastro pub in Ardmore with an assortment f teammates including captains Bug and Matty L.
