Just what I needed

May 4, 2020 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 70ish with significant northerly breeze

Comments:
After some Draper weekend thunderstorms last night, today was spectacular spring weather. Fresh green leaves, azaleas and dogwoods still holding on, bright blue skies... The fairly intense wind out of the north just accentuated it all. I felt surprisingly good after having felt pretty crumby for the second half of yesterday's long slog. Anna and Leah went off for a run of their own and a few minutes later, I set off down Reno. (Didn't realize I had the wind at my back until I felt it in my face on the return.) Got shout our form Richard Avidon along Reno and then I believe it was the Caveman who gave me a shout below Vann Ness. That was all I needed to shit gears from something near 7:45 to something below 7:30. Carried that momentum the rest of the way and was pleased to encounter former GDS cc runner Julia Fisher along 34th near the STA track. After a brief chat, I was back to a strong effort and turned up Mass to Wisc. That hill was a punch in the stomach, but I kept grinding. Turning onto Wisc is never as rewarding as one hopes becuase there is still slanted earth past the STA church, but today it was even more disheartening as there was now the stiff wind in my face. Still, I focused on running within myself and worked to stay relaxed and maintain form. As I got closer to home (and passed Roger Feldman) I again built momentum and confidence. It is just so satisfying to be out pushing oneself after all the hours on zoom and on the screen! The weather and spring keeps exciting me. Can't remember the last time I was getting this much training in during the months of April and May... It has likely been 20-25 years since I took a base of mileage into June. Got splits on the final two miles from Norton place to home. 7:15 to Tenley and 6:58 to home. Jogged slowly around alley block to cooldown and ensure I got to 6 miles. Ran into Leah and Anna finishing their run/walk along 41st.
