I need runs like this.

May 10, 2020 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60 and lovely

Comments:
Drove with Leah and parked at Tennyson and Oregon Ave. We jogged 6 minutes south on Western Ridge trail until Northampton where Leah turned for home. I continued on Western to the Horse center and turned left into the woods behind that. Kept to the top of the ridge until I'd passed the Capitol Stones and then dropped down Mike Shreoer's hill to the Comanche Trail. Turned left and followed the creek to Military. Got on Eastern Valley Trail and took the north to Boundary Bridge. Turned left up Western Ridge back to the car. I felt heavy legged from the start and labored on every uphill, but that is how runs are some days. I savored the fresh green of the woods and the unhurried pace of the run. Probably averaged 8s, but must have been below that for flatter stretches and downhills. Don't know how I would have gotten through this spring without running. I'm starting to get a bit of an itch to run something quicker at some point. I do still have serious weakness in the lower left abdomen. Not a hernia, but some totally weak muscle of scar tissue related to all that. Most sneezes hurt, and I can't sit up from lying on my back. Just don't have any strength there and long runs like this tire it out so I notice it a lot afterwards. Right side is far from perfect, but not as bad. Stupid middle age... Oh yeah, and so I can remember this day years from now, I'll add that I drove straight from the run to Raku in Cleveland Park. We'd placed an online order at 4:45 for a 6:45 pick up. I arrived at 6:45 and stood outside in the chill, wearing shorts until 8:15 when the food was finally ready. Happy Mothers' Day.
