...But I sure feel old.
Katherine arrived on foot from her house at 4:30pm and we headed down Reno, looped the Cathedral, and returned on Wisc. I was apprehensive as I've been pretty wiped out from the frequent exercise and heat and the left quad bruise has made it hard to bend my leg or do stairs. We started very slowly, but sometime around 20 minutes in I realized I wasn't noticing the limp or pain much at all, and I felt like I was running normally. Of course, 20 minutes in is also just about when my body begins to overheat on these hot, humid days, and everything feels like tempo pace after that. Still, good company helps a lot, and I only truly felt like an ice truck, going up a hill of molasses in the winter time for the final two miles. When I found myself referring to the slope from Tenley Circle to Brandywine Street as "a hill," I realized just how hard I was working to get to a 7:30 pace. The last mile, with the downhill, was about 7:20, and only because I wanted it to be over as soon as possible. Katherine was cheerfully reassuring me throughout, and dashed on towards her house as I staggered around my kitchen and held my head under the faucet before taking a cold shower and guzzling that water too. Weight after run was about 7 lbs below an average morning. oops.
