Exercise Type: Run
Weather: wet and some actual light rain in the second half
Comments:
Went to Sarah and Jon's house to get food ready for Christmas Eve dinner. Slipped out around sunset and between rain showers. Intended to run to the campus and back, but once on campus, I just got sucked further and further up the hill. Ran past the social sciences building, the bell tower, the football stadium, and eventually wound up Centennial Road past the Strawberry valley, botanical gardens, and up to the overlook at Lawrence Hall of Science. Took in the amazing view and fading sunset over the SF Bay. It had taken me 35 minutes to reach the peak, about 20 minutes were uphill with some significantly steep (12 + 13%) climbs. Ran back down and cut past the frat houses to Russell St and took that back to their house (about half an hour). Having intended only for a 30 minute run, I was pleased to have gotten in what a map said was 8.25 miles. Left knee was meh on the way up and painful on the way down. Two miles hard running downhill in the dark, slick rand steep roads didn't help the legs feel fresh, but I had a good time and will long remember this run. Also, I was cursing Wombat on the way up the endless hill as I was inspired to run up there as I know Wombat had surely trained on that hill 30 years ago.
